As of 1/3/2012 it will have been two year since my Father’s sudden passing and to celebrate his life and memory I have the distinct pleasure of presenting a recently discovered original song by my Pop’s, Duane Suomi.

“All The Killing” was recorded sometime in 2008 in my home studio. He never liked the vocals he cut, so it just sort of sat on the back burner until we totally forgot about it. He didn’t hold a very high opinion of himself, artistically speaking, and was privy to writing, recording … and then deleting.

Recently I was thrilled to discover the vocal scratch track he laid down one night. Although I’m sure if he inhabited the Earth today he’d still be trying to lay down a “Killer Vocal” but in light of the situation, I think this one sounds pretty good.

Pay close attention to the late 00’s cultural references. Most of the people referenced are still causing problems. The lyric is quintessential Pop’s. Sardonic yet charming.

Here to my Dad, the Tupac of Melbourne, Florida… Or maybe Biggie is a better analogy…

He did always love it when you called him Big Papa.

The Earth and the Moon as seen from 6,000,000 miles away.

Everything we are.   Every promise, every tear.   Every myth and every year. Every war and every peace.   Every tired, dusty feet.   Every child sleeping tight. All the strangers in the night.   Every homer Henry hit.   Every quite place to sit and think.   Have I every felt so insignificant?   Or more a part of it?

And to think, this isn’t even outside of our solar system…

Empty yourself of everything.
Let the mind become still.
Things in the world rise and fall while the Self watches their return.
They grow and flourish and then return to the source.
Returning to the source is stillness, which is the way of nature.

Darth Vader Can’t Hear Shit! A humorous look at life in the helmet. @forcecast

Cinco De Mayo will forever mark a special moment in my life. 10 years ago today I had an experience that established in me an unwavering self-confidence in my abilities as an artist and a timeless bond of friendship that only such a shared experience can imbue. On May 5th 2001 my band Symptom recorded the song “Wrong” at Avalon Studios in Port Saint Lucie in an all night session of absinthe fueled magic.

This time is important to me for a couple of reasons. Never before had I had the opportunity to record with someone of the caliber of expertise as was owned by the engineer John Cheadle. His insight and technical skills gave my music a weight and respect that was years ahead of my ability. It was a moment I hope every musician can attain. One in which he hears his music for the first time sounding the way it has sounded in his head since he wrote it.

Dually important was the tremendous feeling of togetherness that Drew and I felt as we drove home listening to the track over and over and over again on the hour long ride back to Melbourne. The song would end… and we would sit in silence… not wanting to drop the bogus bravado containing the school-girl giddiness we felt in our hearts as we waited for the other guy to break and push play one more time. We felt like we had made something important. Something that gave meaning to the time spent developing our art. Something that gave voice to the pain and dissolution we had, until now, only been able to express to each other. Something that said “I’m 23 years old and I hate the world”, not in a juvenile manner but in a sophisticated, electric punch in the face.

Listening back now, 10 years on, the flaws are evident. Hindsight has a way of destroying your fondest of memories but that’s not what’s important. What is important is that I had a moment by which all others, in my creative life, have been judged against and for that brief moment in my life a song called “Wrong” made every thing right.

kamronsmiraclemission asked: Is this where I can comment? This is a test of the emergency broadcast system. If this had been a real emergency, Derek would actually call me, cause he has been better at doing that than I have. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Facebook post that you will watch with anticipation to see how many people comment.
